Cultivating Future at School is a 3 years project that started in April 2010. It is funded by Intervita Onlus and implemented by Istituto Oikos in partnership with Oikos East Africa. The initiative aims at improving the educational level of 17 primary schools and at raising awareness on correct nutrition in rural areas of Oldonyosambu and Ngarenanyuki Wards, in Northern Tanzania.
We are currently working with about 8000 children between 6 and 16 years old, 120 primary school teachers and about 10,000 community members of 8 different villages.
During the first two years of the project we have realized many school vegetable gardens to improve the school meals, we have built 11 kitchens with high energy efficiency improved stoves, we have organized trainings on home gardening and correct nutrition, we have installed solar systems in the classrooms, we have built playgrounds and we have provided school materials like books, desks, cupboards and computers.
Working in primary schools is crucial to us: we believe that the children are the starting point to build a better future for the local population ,that includes correct nutrition, quality education and respect for the environment.
