Oikos East Africa has actively promoted biodiversity protection through direct interventions aimed at training selected local people to become Game Scouts. In 2009 Oikos East Africa coordinated the training of 17 Village Game Scouts selected by village Councils. The VGS were trained to utilise Binoculars, GPS, Compass, and Maps for the monitoring and protection of resident and migrating wildlife.
